OPA Report for 9/25/19 

1. New Board began on September 1 – including CPA Rep; Katie Jones, Ph.D.!
OPA Board Retreat was held Friday, September 13-Saturday, September 14.
2. Legislative Day was conducted at the Statehouse on Wednesday, 9/18. New schedule
involved meeting later in the morning for keynote speaker and preparatory training for
meetings with legislative aides, lunch, meetings with aides and legislators, 5-7 pm
reception for legislators, OPA members and staff. More legislators seemed to be more
involved and for greater periods of time with this format!
3. Updates: PsyPACT interested party meeting occurred on 10/24/19 – Ohio Medical Assn
and their lobbyist attempted to make trouble.
Rural Health Task Force – has been convened over the summer and continues to have
monthly conference calls – Dr. Jennifer Lackey has been designated as the Ohio Rural
Health Coordinator who will coordinate communications/activities between APA’s Rural
Health Committee (which was attended by Cathy Gaw, Psy.D. and Michael Ranney, ED
at APA Convention) and OPA’s Rural Health Task Force.
OPA Colleague Assistance Program – offers resources to Ohio psychologists who may
need confidential help locating appropriate treatment or self-care resources. Service is
voluntary (separate from the Psychology Board), confidential and free. Treatment costs
are paid by the individual in treatment. OCAP is seeking treatment providers who are
interested in participating in this program. ALSO OCAP has introduced a contest
entitled: What does good self-care look like to you? Asking for a 1-2 minute video or
series of pictures to be submitted to Howard Fradkin, Ph.D. ([email protected])
by Monday, November 28, 2019 11:59 EST. Winner will receive a free 3-day registration
to the 2020 OPA Convention.
4. OPA Dates to Remember:
OPA Board Meeting – Saturday, October 12, 2019 10 am – Noon
OPA Convention Proposals Due – 5 pm Friday, October 25, 2019. 2020 Convention
theme is: Today’s Psychology: Practice, Research and Emerging Trends. Submit your
proposals regarding emerging trends in psychological research, practice and
assessment. Guidelines and proposal forms are available on OPA website.
OPA’s Virtual Fall Assembly – Members Only - Saturday, October 26, 2019 (register on
OPA website) 10 am – Noon. To discuss identified pressing issues that impact Ohio
public and psychologists. Topics to be announced on the OPA website.
