Presentation: "Exposure with Response Prevention for OCD: An Idiographic Approach"

Speaker: Jonah Lakin, PsyD

Dr.Jonah Lakin will discuss Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and identify several common subtypes.  He will review Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP), including how it can be applied to each of these subtypes.  He will place an emphasis on using an idiographic approach, allowing providers to match their treatment to each client's individual case formulation.  He will further elaborate by discussing the need for continued updates to the case formulation as each exposure is completed.  He will also discuss the theoretical basis of ERP as a form of behavioral psychotherapy, and explain when cognitive strategies may be indicated.

Dr. Jonah Lakin is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the founder of the OCD & Anxiety Center of Cleveland. He first began using Prolonged Exposure to treat individuals who developed PTSD after a traumatic occupational event at his post-doctoral placement within the Center for Occupational Health in Richmond, California.  He sought an additional year of training and supervision in exposure therapies, including Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP), at the East Bay Behavior Therapy Center and the Berkley CBT Clinic run by Patricia Zurita Ona, PsyD and Matthew McKay, PhD respectively.  After this, Dr Lakin founded the San Mateo CBT Clinic and Walnut Creek CBT Clinic, which focused on the use of exposure therapies to treat OCD and anxiety disorders.  In addition to traditional outpatient care, Dr Lakin worked at the Gateway Institute, a specialized Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for OCD spectrum disorders.  Lastly, Dr Lakin participated in advanced consultation with Jonathan Grayson, PhD through the International OCD Foundation.

2.0 MCE credits will be provided from the OPA-MCE. The Cleveland Psychological Association, Inc. is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association, Inc., #06P0-341377843, maintains responsibility for the program.
